Polymeri Online 21.1.13 | "Brave" mix media, Gems and faceted polymer clay, Wild stone tutorial, Tom and the clock, More from my working table

Inspirational Jewelry
Janet olson - ChickieGirlCreations creates beautiful pendants using so many techniques and materials! polymer clay, acrylic paints, inks, pens, sealers, textures, distress and patterns. Her mix media jewelry are all about color, and texture. She mentions she is influenced by nature, and as a result lean toward rustic and distressed designs. She also enjoys art journalism and positive messages interwoven in her art.

Faceted Polymer and Sterling

Wild Stone Beads Tutorial
"pink_lizzard" Julia is sharing with us her "wild stone" beads class. She says this effect was a happy accident. It all started as a watercolor technique project placed on a paper for a while, and after 2 weeks(!) on the paper she ended up with zero plasticizer and a very dry pile of clay. Then, turned it into beads.
It reminds me of those old Terrazzo floor tiles.

Tom's Clock Adventures
I came across "The Brooding Tom's" clock video on YouTube and dug inside a little more. The artist (tom?) is sharing his detailed experiments on sculpturing and creating large pieces, letting us know what worked and what went wrong in each project.
In the clock video series he is going through all the details for creating the piece until completion.
Fascinating work! Don't miss his recent alien videos.

I am continuing my CFCF samples - bags and beads this week, It is been a while since I did production work, and returning to that busy and meditating work (such as painting, shaping, gluing pins and zippers) is quite relaxing (and I am not including sanding into the "relaxing" category...)
Feels great to repeat the same project in different shapes, colors and designs, challenge to the mind and hands. I really enjoy it.

"Hamburger" Bag, I really liked it's shape!

INKredible Polymer | NEW Alcohol Inks Polymer Clay Tutorial

Long before the era of digital age, with laptops, ipads and smart phones, there was only INK.
Incredible, isn't it?

INKredible Polymer!
Alcohol Inks Polymer Clay Tutorial
Can you imagine how the world would look like without INK?

Books, newspapers, love letters, piano notes, symphonies and art paintings might look different from how you know them theses days.
INK made the whole difference.

Thousands of years ago, the human kind began using ink for writing.
This was the beginning of a wonderful journey for this fascinating material, and for the last months, also for me.

My new tutorial is dedicated to a unique relationship between polymer clay and INK -
INKredible.

INKredible Polymer!
Alcohol Inks Polymer Clay Tutorial
I am happy to reveal my quest discoveries, while exploring, using, mixing, nearly fighting to turn Inked polymer clay into a new chemistry element :)

Although I was a complete beginner using alcohol inks 3 months ago, a special request by a friend introduced me into a new adventure.

Studying, researching, experimenting, practicing, mixing, and learning all about Alcohol inks, head to tow, top to bottom.

Polymeri Online 9.5.12 | Polymer clay jewelry, Bracelet mold casting, Translucent experiments and sleepless nights pendants

After a short break, we are back to PolymeriOnline links for this week -

I found a nice polymer PR in Hacklock blog - "featuring polymer clay as art". I loved Heather's comparison of children drawings vs. professional drawing, it is obviously the same with polymer clay, the more people realize this, the more our material upgrade it's position as an art medium and not a children material. http://hacklock.net/category/polymer-clay-artists/

Del Moro Polymer Clay Jewelry
Among Meredith Dittmar, Shay Aaron miniatures and Pier Voulkus, she featured Del Moro which was featured here 4 years ago, He is a polymer clay designer, chemicist and technologist who works in various techniques and produce interesting designs you'd find yourself taking a 2nd look at. I specifically liked his polymer clay guitar collection.

You can find one of his tutorials in 2008's PolymeriOnline post -

Polymer Clay - Mold Casting
Sweet Willow Designs's blog is full of useful tips and information.  She is creating mixed media jewelry and worked in many different mediums including paint, metal, fiber, fabric and what not. Her studio name, Sweet Willow Designs, is a nod to the many hours she spent under the willow tree in her grandparents' Haverhill, Massachusetts home.
I encourage you to take a look at her other posts, but chose this one to see her 2 steps bracelet mold making. I specifically liked her "saving material" tips on  placing a plug of scrap clay for the center of the bracelet to save on the amount of silicone rubber she'll need to use.

Marjana Polymer Clay Pendant
Last one for today is Marjana from Slovenia, her pendants caught my eye and when visiting her blog she tells us that they were a result of 3 sleepless nights (sick child) and when she decided to stay home (like a zombie), these were her new creations using paints, wood and fimo. I hope her child is feeling better :) I'd be happy to see more of her creations when everyone is healthy.

Speaking of health, not polymer clay related - after getting the beautiful Blurb photo album from our USA trip by the post messenger, (Blurb are great, b.t.w!), I was so busy looking at the photos while walking down the stairs that I.... fell.
Lesson to be learned, don't look at photo albums when you go down your stairs.
Lucky me, I didn't break anything but now I am walking like a duck.

Polymeri Online - 3.4.08 Australia #2

More Aussie Artists!

Sera Pinwill - The Fabulous Frippist
Sera has been working with polymer for over a decade, and have developed a fascination for perfect finishes. Whether its glossy and sleek or textured and antiqued - if its done well, she loves it. her own polymer work ends up in elaborately bead embroidered collars, as well as more conventional jewellery. Her next project is a doll - although her first dolls head effort was rather tragic, when the whole head developed giant cracks in three places, but she will keep up trying! :)

Chez have dabbled in polymer clay for over 15 years now but have been more seriously involved as a polymerclay artist in the last 3 years. she loves work that is original and unique. Everything she makes is hand made. She loves to sculpture mermaids and fairies as well as babies.

Rebecca wells - her bio, such an interesting story (taken word by word from her site):Rebecca’s love for art began early in life and has continued to grow and develop throughout the years. She has owned several floral shops and won awards nationally for her floral artistry. In 1998 when her business burned down, Rebecca decided to pursue other venues and returned to school to pursue her Master’s degree in Behavioral Science. She teaches full time as an adjunct professor of Psychology and Sociology at Alvin Community College. After finishing school, Rebecca discovered that her creative juices were begging for an outlet. Thus, she began claying. Rebecca has worked in both earthen clay and polymer clay, but her passion is polymer. Her influence comes heavily from her love of nature and floral design. In addition, her love of color and all things organic is reflected in a large portion of her work.

Mandala (Sanskrit "circle", "completion") is of Hindu origin and is also used in most Dharmic religions, such as Buddhism and Hinduism, to refer to various tangible objects. In Vajrayana they have been developed into sandpainting. In practice, mandala has become a generic term for any plan, chart or geometric pattern which represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe from the human perspective.
A mandala, especially its center, can be used during meditation as an object for focusing attention. The symmetrical geometric shapes tend to draw the attention towards their center.
