Polymeri Online 16.9.13 | Winning Mokume-Utensils, Horses-acrylic-polymer Trio, Pressed flower beads tutorial, Shiny vessels and Crazy clown earrings

First batch of September's holidays is over, second is still ahead, so between family gatherings, traditional feasts and other activities I am finding some time for PolymeriOnline posts.

Check out Rebekah Payne's tutorial for antiqued pressed flower beads. Rebekah is using polymer clay and molds to create these beautiful beads, her molds seem to be handmade but I am not 100% sure about that, I think you can create similar molds by using leaves from your back yard and embed them inside Mold maker, silicon base or even scrap clay.
Rebekah was mentioned in PolymeriOnline blog in April 2011, then, with her lovely heart pendant.
The Art Jewelry Elements blog is written by several contributors so you may want to look around to find more treasures.

This is a previous version of her beads -

Caren's TRIO - polymer-horses-acrylic
Caren Goodrich is a lifelong artist. She paints horses in acrylic and also work in metal clay and polymer clay. These beauties are her horses meeting polymer clay, she did these with a very thin, watercolor-like application of acrylic paint and used a coat of liquid polymer as a sealer. According to her this kind of work is much more time consuming than her paper canvas painting....

Helen's Utensiles

Helen Hughes posted a beautiful set of utensils made of translucent mokume gane stack. She won Polyform's August Make-It-Your-Own contest.
Helen is enjoying her time in sculpturing as well and her Etsy store is all ready for Halloween!

Beefball Bowls
Beefball Papa's work looks and feels like glass & polymer clay all together.
In her perfect finish she creates a smooth and shiny piece which makes you wonder what these bowls are made of or if she places her canes are on the inside of outside....
Her mixed canes and patterns, looks wonderful.
She is from China, Beijing and I hope we will see more of her art.

Crazy Clown earrings by Maddalena
Last is a colorful example of a very easy technique for mixing straps of clay to achieve a happy design.
Maddalena Gianni posted these earrings in her flickr and she calls them "crazy clown" design. She is from Piza Italy (Yay! been there!) and it seems that at the moment millefiori canes are her passion.

Polymeri Online 29.7.12 | Polymer IPOD case, Mokume on glass, Poinsettia and flowers, Before and after paintings

Polymer clay ipod case
Eten-Iren, mentioned several months ago made this colorful ipod case on a base plastic case - isn't this cool? I wonder if she made the roses, cured and then adhered them to the base case or placed it in the oven? I'll have to try curing some plastic cases and see if they are heat resistant :)

Mokume gane on glass
Mokume on a glass - Larissa Joonas from Estonia is using a glass as a surface for "shaving" off the mokume gane pieces. That is one option for creating this special effect.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/eutrapelia/7396278886/
She has several pictutorials in her flickr gallery -

Polymer clay flower sculpturing
Liudmyla Heggland is a bead and polymer clay artist, creating flowers seems to be a natural talent of hers, here is a yellow poinsettia brooch and another flowery neck-piece, this necklace won 2nd place on 2010 Fire Mountain Gems contest.

Polymer clay jewelry with paints - Before and after
Adding acrylic/oil paints to a texture can upgrade any design. Take a look at ToutEnCouleur before and after photos: a dots texture with paints addition.

Here is the "before" - http://www.flickr.com/photos/toutencouleur/4236945660/in/set-72157622994730063/
and "after" -http://www.flickr.com/photos/toutencouleur/4236168315/in/set-72157622994730063/
She is working with polymer, resin, paper and carton, I also liked her tourbillons beads, they remind me of flying skirts...

Everyone is talking about the heat all around, I am officially waiting for the winter, I think the clay will also appreciate it, have a great cool day!

Polymeri Online 26.2.2012 | Play-Doh take 2, Figures late at night, Mokume wonder & The great jewelry display

Once again, Yondat Dascalu and Idit fischer-Katz (Zoota) made a collaboration to think of new ideas to use play-doh and natural clay. Two years ago they figured out a way to create canes using Play-Doh and now came up with a new idea to use natural clay as a mold for polymer clay. Since natural clay curing temperature is much higher then polymer clay curing temperature you can use it as a "shape holder" to create many shapes of polymer. Give it a try!

When I was reading blog posts in the Israeli Etsy group I found an artist called Charles Chetrit. Since he was a child he was sculpturing figures from olive tree branches. 4 years ago he was injured at work and found himself at home for a long period of time. That was the perfect time to go back to his artistic roots when he found out about polymer clay. To create his large sculptures he is using a metal bases and bringing his figures to life. Today he is the manager of the filming department on an Israeli tv channel and find the late night hours the best time to create. Thank you Charles for sharing your story with me :)

Back in those days, she didn't know anyone else who worked in polymer clay except for the friends that she introduced to the medium. She had taught herself caning out of Fimo after seeing some incredible necklaces made out of animal face canes. read more on her bio here

Lynn D. Troldahl Hershberger found the polymer clay at 1991. She became attracted to working with Polymer Clay primarily because of its color range and creative flexibility, All of her work also glows in the dark, she uses millefiori, mokume gane, and was fortunate to be able to study with Nan Roche.

Mokume Gane!

Mokume is a mixed-metal laminate with distinctive layered patterns. Literally translating as "wood eye (i.e., burl) metal", the name was borrowed from one type of pattern welding used to forge katana blades. As another recent variation, has also been used to describe similarly-patterned laminations among different colors of polymer art clay.
