Polymer clay DiscChic jewelry - Mystery revealed! FREE polymer clay tutorial and video

DiscChic jewellery by Iris Mishly
Secrets aren't meant to stay secrets - right?
At least not when you're teaching and sharing it with the polymer clay community :)

Back when I started my DiscChic jewellery, I wasn't imagining the curiosity these beads will create.

The DiscChic jewellery were created using reused computer components.

I discovered them accidentally.
An associate showed me several aluminium parts disassembled, he planned to discard them for recycling so I instantly told him i'll ensure they'll be reused in the most outstanding method!!
In my polymer clay studio! :)

Right after collecting all of them, I started creating jewelry from them.
Their “bezel-like” qualities made them ideal for creating beads & being made of metal made them best to combine with polymer clay.
In addition, their “donut-like” form was fantastic for stringing them in exciting innovative techniques.
The DiscChic tutorial was a hit when it was published several years ago.

Until recently I've kept my components mysterious, however, I'm prepared to reveal my personal little secret and be pleased to see your designs, having fun with these interesting findings.

Who knows, right after viewing my online video you might find a treasure concealed in your office drawers.

So, what exactly are these discs?
Well, they're aluminum discs concealed within 3.25 computer floppy discs,
Yes, those no longer to be found in personal computers, the ones we used a long time ago prior to Dvds or USB flash drives.

Click here to see the full post, video and a speedy demonstration on how to use them.
I already got dozen responses letting me know so many people still save them and happy to give them a new purpose!

Wild Stone Beads Tutorial
"pink_lizzard" Julia is sharing with us her "wild stone" beads class. She says this effect was a happy accident. It all started as a watercolor technique project placed on a paper for a while, and after 2 weeks(!) on the paper she ended up with zero plasticizer and a very dry pile of clay. Then, turned it into beads.
It reminds me of those old Terrazzo floor tiles.

Tom's Clock Adventures
I came across "The Brooding Tom's" clock video on YouTube and dug inside a little more. The artist (tom?) is sharing his detailed experiments on sculpturing and creating large pieces, letting us know what worked and what went wrong in each project.
In the clock video series he is going through all the details for creating the piece until completion.
Fascinating work! Don't miss his recent alien videos.

I am continuing my CFCF samples - bags and beads this week, It is been a while since I did production work, and returning to that busy and meditating work (such as painting, shaping, gluing pins and zippers) is quite relaxing (and I am not including sanding into the "relaxing" category...)
Feels great to repeat the same project in different shapes, colors and designs, challenge to the mind and hands. I really enjoy it.

"Hamburger" Bag, I really liked it's shape!

The Skyscraper and Flakes Techniques! New PolyPediaOnline Tutorials

111 comments! 111 of you played along with my guessing game and guessed right!
The photo was the wonderful New-York New-York hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA!
Thank you for your tips and blessings! Don't worry! I'm too scared to even try gambling!

I picked 2 as winners of my 2 new tutorials -
Comment no. 109 Jen Neff winning Vol. 38
Comment no. 48 - K winning Vol. 39
Congratulations to the winners!

For some reason all the numbers in my blog comments disappeared so I had to count...!

If you are wondering what the new tutorial is all about, it's not enamel and not glass - It's polymer clay!

and what if I tell you that in my new tutorial "show-time" starts AFTER baking?

I give you! The Skyscraper technique.

In this new class we will use liquid polymer clay to create exquisite, irresistible designs anyone looking at it won't believe it's clay.

You will also learn how to extract the best of liquid polymer clay and use it for more than just merely an adhesive or a transfer assistant!

The name "Skyscraper technique" popped in my head in association to the tall, impressive and sparkling buildings seen in big cities worldwide.

The long, narrow, sparkling beads reminded me of the wonderful New York skyline, the sparkle metal look of the skyscrapers is also a main characteristic of this technique.
This class is all about challenging yourself and upgrading your polymer clay work, making it more sophisticated and stylish then ever.

In the new Skyscraper tutorial we will NOT follow the regular procedure of creating and curing.

In this technique we will FIRST cure our materials and only then, work and design our final product.

Sounds crazy? Yes! but possible.

Donations to the 2nd Annual OK Poly-Clay Twisters Retreat

Several weeks ago I got an email from Angela Mabray, the VP & Webmaster of the Central Oklahoma Polymer Clay Guild telling me about their 2nd Annual OK Poly-Clay Twisters Retreat, to be held April 19-21, 2012.

The event will feature Christi Friesen, who''ll be teaching classes, and claying along with the participants, in addition, they will have demos, vendor tables, free breakfast/lunch and in short - 100% polymer clay fun!

Like I did in similar retreats I sent Angela 2 of my new "Disc-Chic" necklaces as donation for their raffle auction.
The new necklaces were using my recycled discs along with stamps, ink and millefiori canes left from my pen designs.
These necklaces are always fun to create as they are so easy and every combination is a sure hit.

While I was playing with the designs, I made additional necklaces and a belt with the new FIMO colors (pastels and sparkled blue), that were given to Staedtler's private collection when I was their guest in Germany 3 weeks ago.

Several of these sets are also offered for sale in my Etsy store.

I am sending my wishes to all the retreat participants and know they will have a great time! (Certainly when Christi is around!).
Happy claying!

Polymeri Online 2.7.11 | Disc-Chic Jewelry, Dolls Tutorials, Miniatures and Monster Beasties

Suzanne Baer is a dear friend and a loyal PolyPediaOnline customer. We exchanged several emails and I had so much pleasure in looking at her polymer clay work.
She discovered polymer clay about 8 or 9 months ago and soon it has become her main hobby. She has taken classes with Jana Lehmann, loves Christi Friesen dragons and now into making her own jewelry, recently using my Disc-Chic jewelry tutorial. She is having fun with seed beads, stamps, glitter and creating metal bezeled beads into beautiful jewelry.

Amanda DeVirgilio has been a doll artist for over 7 years. Illness forced her to find a way to make money from home and creating art was all she could manage. When she first
started sculpting, there was a severe lack of free online tutorials to help young doll makers learn the artform. She is constantly working on her site and her goal is to provide you with an arsenal of free beginner tutorials enabling you to start making your own dolls.
eyes, armatures, fantasy art, faces -

Alexandra Christensen's favorite things to do outside of making OOAK miniatures is skateboard, She volunteers several times a week with kids in a Christian skateboard ministry. She says she loves flying down the ramps at break-neck speed and dropping into a 5.5 ft bowl (which is an empty pool)! OMG, my bones are cracking just to think of it! Her Etsy store is full of wonderful earring tree displays and other sculpted miniatures made from Sculpey and polymer Clay.

In HappyMoonBelly Creations Etsy store by Jennifer Clark you will find a place full of miniature whimsical monster beastie creatures and fun yeti's. All miniature sculptures are hand-crafted using no molds. Take a look at her beautiful Gooberzillas! :)

Donations - 6th Annual Fandango Polymer Clay Retreat

Orlando Area Polymer Clay Guild in Central Florida, is holding the 6th Annual Fandango Polymer Clay Retreat at the May 19-23 this year. I was asked by Charline Ahlgreen, OAPC Guild President and Donations Chairwoman, to donate some of my favorite items to be used in the auctions and "goodie bags" for the participants.

As I was told the proceeds raised from the auctions will be used to fund polymer clay community outreach programs (demonstrations, public library classes, "Bottles of Hope" for cancer patients and many more). The guild also provides two internal scholarships annually that enable their members to take master classes so that they can expand their polymer clay skills.

It was an honor for me to donate these items given for such important causes, I hope they will raise enough! :)

Have fun! wish i lived a little closer...

Mystery revealed - Disc-Chic Jewelry!

Finally! the Mystery revealed!
Only 50 lucky people will know how to create my one-of-a-kind Disc-Chic jewelry - Be one of them!

All the secrets you wanted to know about my one-of-a-kind Disc-Chic jewelry are offered in a one-of-a-kind kit - tutorial and videos!

Today i am revealing my biggest mysteries, Disc-Chic jewelry.

They were featured in many sites, magazines and books and sold as quickly as they are placed on the table.

Their refreshing concept, luxurious style & fancy look is what made them so appealing and very popular.

I really found them by accident, a friend showed me some metal parts taken apart at a tech lab, he wanted to throw them away for recycling, i immediately told him i will make sure they will recycle in the most respectable way!! in my polymer clay studio! :)

Their “bezel-like” characteristics made them perfect for making beads, being made of metal made them perfect to combine with polymer clay, plus, their "donut-like" flat shape are ideal for stringing them in fun creative ways.

Donut beads are a challenge for stringing because of the need to make them lie flat, so i thought of elegant ways to make them into jewelry - All the necessary information on creating these amazing jewel pieces is gathered in a comprehensive all-levels tutorial and step-by-step videos!

It took me 2 years to build a winning jewel piece!
You can make it within 2 hours tops!!

So...Get ready to learn all the secrets and enjoy the "WOW" you'll get from every one looking at it, no one else has it!

p.s. - This unique offer was never seen before in PolyPediaOnline, THIS is your one opportunity to learn something only 50 people will know... :)
