PolyPediaOnline News | FREE polymer clay “billowed-screened” tutorial & Greece 2015 classes

New FREE polymer clay tutorial - "Billowed-Screened" technique project!

Being a part of Polyforms' contributing designers group, I have been called for an exciting technique to be released on the net.
The only one request was: “Please work with Sculpey III clay.”

Being a newcomer with this particular brand of clay (never dealt with it prior to this project) I instantly began working with it, examining its qualities.

Silk screens are also fresh to me. From the time I received my test set from Polyform, my fingertips were tickling to check these out.
Soon after a couple of tries, a brand new project was created mixing the two - silk screens and Sculpey III clay -
An attractive kitchen utensil holder.

This particular project could be modified into countless additional purposes - different holders (studio equipment, cosmetics brushes) as well as big statement jewellery, for example bracelets!

I am pleased to announce that I will be teaching two half days courses in the polymer clay retreat “Meraki in Mani”, occurring in Stoupa, Greece, organized by Ms. Lee O’Connor.

The 5 day retreat will take place on October 5-9, 2015.

The purpose of this kind of retreat is friends working together making time for what we all enjoy, spreading knowledge, approaches and creativity and having new materials and tools to experience with along with time off to explore and enjoy the location.

I will be offering 2 half day classes on Tuesday- Wednesday, October 6-7th ,2015 - The “Cosmic Ceramic” faux ceramics technique and “The Brocade Collection” purses class.

When "Brocade Collection" purses met "Moon Rock" beads - Polymer Clay Playtime

life has a funny way sneaking up on you.
I find it more and more difficult to find time to do my favourite things these days (blogging, claying more).
Becoming a vegan 3 months ago (along with 2 family members) demands its adjusting and more kitchen time.
I lost 10 kg due to this change and added physical activity to strengthen my muscles and body.
Being 43 demands maintenance!... :)
Too bad we have only 24 hours a day (or maybe we're lucky to have just 24?)...you'll decide.

BUT!
I did have the opportunity to work with clay the previous weekend, with a wonderful group of ladies from the Netherlands - Skyscraper beads and Brocade-Cosmic purses.

New Samples were created to adjust the combination and techniques mix.

I called it "When Brocade Collection purses met Moon Rock beads", adding flowers and other inclusions.

It's incredible how fun it is to mix tutorials, blend materials, "stir" techniques and create a completely different project every time - chalks, paints, pastes, powders, eye shadows, sponges, oil pastels, with just a bit of imagination (and trial) it all combine in a perfect harmony.

Don't be afraid to experiment!

The Dutch guild ladies were so creative with their Skyscraper & Cosmic Brocade purses projects, 4 different surface effects were introduced in the class and each student took her favourite technique and created a purse out of it (or 2, or 3!).

As always my classes are free of boundaries.

I love to see how my students take a technique or an idea to their own creative voice. Even the same materials, instructions and steps, looks different in any artist hand. (Don't tell anyone but sometimes I see my students creativity and ask myself "how I didn't think of that?!" ;)

Polymeri Online 12.7.14 | No-water polymer aquarium, Jumping jellies, Elephant kingdom, Oriental polymer tales, Extruder basket weaving tutorial, Netherlands teaching and Tools/tutorials special summer sale

In these hot summer days, all I can think is ocean, beach and cool water.

Thailand is just 2 weeks away and I am looking forward to taking a break from all that is going on in my country. Without getting into political talks or taking sides, these are not easy times in Israel.

Elephant Kingdom by Kni Kni

Latvian polymer clay artist Kni Kni (I think her name is Inga Rosenberg) loves elephants.
Most of her flickr gallery is dedicated to these beautiful creatures - in mokume gane techniques, millefiori, stamped, sculpted, carved, mandala-ed - Elephants Kingdom!
Translation makes it a bit difficult to understand why this animal is so important to her, but like many of us, we just admire their sensitivity, their touching family relationship and their human eyes look. I cannot wait to see some of them in Thailand.

Polymer & felt - polymer clay tutorial

Julia Zhilenkova (Kovrigina) posted an "Oriental Tales" bracelet and earrings in the art "ragged edge" as translation suggests.

She is using felt as her base for the earrings and bracelet instead of clay. This will ensure a lightweight design and comfortable wearing. First, she is creating the circles design using mixed strands and a clay extruder and then measuring her felt and cutting accordingly.
The addition of seed beads around the design is lovely and at first sight you would think the design is made entirely of fabrics!
