Luann Udell

Her main influences are archeology, oriental art, primitive and naive art. She is fascinated by museum displays of ancient art and anthropology, and she deliberately echoes their display aesthetics in her work. Her wall hangings feature small models of fish and horses, inspired by the prehistoric cave art found in the cave of Lascaux, Chauvet and Alta Mira.

..."I imagine an artist of the distant past, far removed from us in time but not in spirit. I imagine the things she made -- simple tools, beautiful ornaments, carvings of horses and fish, simple cloth -- all have been rediscovered and kept, treasured, reset in new surroundings. Their original meaning is perhaps lost to us, but their beauty creates new echoes in our modern hearts."....
