What? Yes.

Let's go, last post for 2015.

wowflute - polymer clay music

Wowflute people (Joseph and Cristina Cowlishaw) are very into polymer clay music making polymer clay flutes!

A Wowflute is a closed-vessel flute that is based on the NAF (Native American Flute).  

It is a six hole flute configured with four finger holes on top and two thumb holes on the bottom.  It is generally played by ear like the NAF.

Joseph is a mechanical designer with a background in engineering technology and since 2009 they’ve sold over 30,000 flutes! wow!

Can polymer clay used inside our mouth? Well, apparently it can. After getting all the necessary documents from Polyform who assured him about the non-toxicity he is dancing to the sound of clay J 

Joseph found that working in polymer clays makes a much brighter and clear tone than regular water based clays.

whimsycalling dolls

Dayna Corbitt (Whimsycalling) is building her own “land of the horned beasts and other fantasy animals”. 

She is creating her one of a kind, handmade dolls, paintings, jewelry, figurines, and more. 

She does not use any molds and all of her designs are original and completely hand made. 

Many of her figurines are dressed with coats, felt and other accessories to bring their personality to life. I can understand why Halloween is her favorite holiday.

Oso polar's sculpturing

Another artist focusing on “creatures” is Oso Polar  (polar bear) from Moscow, Russia.

She is creating her own handmade dolls, custom Blythe, Monster High and Pullip dolls, also - handmade hats for Blythe dolls.

Each piece is a master piece, done with extra care and details.

3^rd dolls artist for today is Irene Vili also from Russia. Her figurines are all so sweet and intriguing all at once! I love their facial expression!

The doll body is hand sewn from faux fur, snout and paws stuff is made by hand from polymer clay, glass eyes handmade have the effect of "tracking". then use acrylic paint, protective varnish, epoxy resin, sea pebbles, batting, glue.

How did you start 2015? 

2015 started for me with new decisions. Mostly to myself.

2014 was creative, but in a different way.
I took a pause from the intensive race and filled my time with changes: New eating habits, sports habits, sleeping habits.
I started thinking of my second half of life.

Do we ever find time to take care of your health? Physical and mental.
Now is the time.

I've made a change building my new website from scratch, learned while making (a lot of) mistakes.
Making mistakes means we are doing new things, trying new things, learning, changing.

In my studio I am learning to work with new materials, new techniques while experimenting with my known favourite ones, expanding, researching.
Taking the time to enjoy creativity.

Let us welcome the new year with optimism and hope. :)

Jiro's perfect polymer clay animal rings

My recent actions to save animals drew my eyes to Jiro Miura's work.
This Japanese and self-taught artist made an impressive series of rings carefully sculpturing realistic looking animals.
The items are very popular and his rings are sold under his business name "Count Blue".  He is mentioned in various blogs and websites and his spectacular perfect work is to admire.

SilverPepper23 Russian artist was featured here years ago. Back then she was creating tiny little flowers made into jewellery. She is still using beautiful flowers in her jewellery but I came across her string jewellery where she takes colourful thin clay strings and create a full scene out of colours. Beautiful.
She is a master with wire to wrap stones and jewels.

Leah created her website (Magic by Leah) as a creative outlet and a means to document her sculpting journey. Crafting, especially in polymer clay allows her to bring her fantasy world to reality.

The owl with 1000 wings necklace

Polish artist VaniLlamaArt (Dorota Ka) posted a beautiful necklace made of endless wings surrounding an owl.

Triangle swirl beads

BijouxMonaBujoux (Migena Hilaj from Italy) posted an easy triangle swirl beads video tutorial in her youtube channel.
She takes the regular method of swirling the beads created with plastic/glass top and then force the bead into a triangular shape which gives an interesting twist.

Studio Artesania (Andrijana Katavic) posted a colourful beads tutorial combining gold leaf/foil with coloured clay to create a fresh necklace to go with every outfit.

Pamela Carmen’s flickr gallery is full of colorful animals decorated with endless blooming millefiori canes.

Fish, owls, birds, hens, frogs, all of them gets their coat of flowers.

In her owl sculpture she mentions ceramic as her base while only the veneer is canes.

Molds and cookies! :)

Nerd Ecrafter posted a video for creating your own molds using only liquid translucent clay (she is using TLS by Polyform). She took an oreo cookie, embedded it into the liquid, baked it (twice) and created her mold instantly. You can use this technique to create any mold of your choice from your found objects as long as they are oven proof! yay!

Ingrid Ulrich’s belt accessory is beautifully adapted to polymer clay. Stamped and antiqued it is giving the impression of the real thing. Located in Germany she is playing with various techniques in her designs.

Masking tape to the rescue

Remove excess polymer clay powders

Christelle Van Lingen shared in her Pinterest gallery a tip she credit Christie Friesen. By using a masking tape you can take off any excess powder left on your stamped image. I learned this trick from Laurie Mika when I was her student several years ago, when she used it on extra foil left on a design. That is really a neat trick.
